The Dream
started in 1984, it was a crisp fall night at Selfridge Air force
Base. They had a gig and Jimmy had just asked Ricky Miles to join the
band. They were called Cherry Wine. They had no business cards or any
promotions. Jimmy was working for this Company that made kids beds,
and one of the beds looked like a race car. Well, they had stickers
he would have to put on the sides of every bed that was made. It was
called "the dream racer". They didn't like that name, so
they took all these stickers that Jimmy had (borrowed) from his job
and cut off the word racer. They walked out on the stage that night
and told everybody they were called "The Dream".
They gave all
the girls a sticker for free! The first five players were: Drums: Joe
Morrow, Piano: Jeff Lehman, Guitar: Jerry West, Bass: Jimmy Koncert,
Vocals/Sax: Ricky Miles.
They have had 17 band changes in the last 22 years; Jimmy & Ricky are the only members of the original band. They decided that they wanted to entertain people that came to see the band. They have done everything you can imagine achieving that goal.
They wore ZZ
top beards, Van Halen spandex, Bon Jovi bandana's, George Michael
glasses and gloves (no Michael Jackson gloves), Motown attire, Grease
skits, and a lot more things they would rather not remember.
In 1994, they
had their 10-year anniversary party. That band had been together the
longest. Drums: Cliff Smith (14 yrs), Piano: Rick Church (16 yrs),
Guitar: Rob Lehman (12 yrs./brother of Jeff Lehman original piano
man), Bass: Jimmy Koncert, Vocals/Sax: Ricky Miles.
In 1998, they
recorded their first CD, called 10 to one.
The band has
been entertaining mostly in the tri-county area. The format consists
of anything from the 60's to current, with strong emphasis on the
70's/80's classics and top 40. Their goal is to put you on the dance
floor. No matter what the song is, if it works they play it. They
have people that have been coming to see the band for 10 and 20
years. Now some of their kids come with them. They think this is why
a wide variety of music works. They have always said "we might
not be the best musicians in town, but we'll give you one hell of a show".
In 2007, The
Dream is still going strong, some say, "The band has never been
better". The band says, "we're not going anywhere soon and
we love what we are doing".
The current members of The Dream are: Drums: John Burnham (2007), Piano: Scott Vernier (2007), Guitar: Kenny Keelin (5 yrs.), Bass: Jimmy Koncert (22 yrs.), Vocals/Guitar/Sax: Ricky Miles (21 yrs).
The Dream
would like to thank all of you one more time for the love and support
you have given them over the last 21 years. They have memories that
will last a lifetime but most importantly they have made friends that
will last a lifetime and it was all because of you coming out to see
"The Dream".
Thanks for the support,
See you at the gig,
